Discover a new style of coaching: The Samman Method

We've all probably had a similar experience.

You take a class and everything clicks. Then you left the class and went back to your day job. You tried to apply what you learned but you realize it is much harder.

You followed along with the examples! You understood them! You were able to complete the exercises in class and everything went fine! But now that you’re back in the office you’re left to figure it out on your own.

Samman Coaching is different.

The classroom is a great place to introduce concepts but it is not enough. Classroom work doesn’t always take into account the nuances of software development. That's where Samman Coaching comes in.

Samman is a method for technical coaches who work with software teams. The focus is on iterative and incremental development practices. The Samman method has two main parts: The Learning Hour and Ensemble Working.

In the learning hour the coach uses exercises and active learning techniques to teach the theory and practice of skills like Test-Driven Development and Refactoring. In the Ensemble sessions the whole team collaborates together with the coach in applying these development techniques in their usual production codebase.

The expected outcome is that teams work more effectively and consistently with iterative and incremental development techniques even after the coach has moved on. This should help the organization to build new features in their software with a shorter lead time and higher quality.

Sam Taggart has completed the Technical Coaching Program with the Samman Society and uses this method with clients.

"Sam's coaching style allows for organic growth of the team as well as individuals. Sam adapts to the team's abilities and tweaks the contents of the sessions accordingly. This has been highly effective for the team to learn and exercise the learnings."
